Your privacy
No accounts, no tracking, no cookies and no servers holding your information. What you type stays in your browser.
Do this first
Type freely. Your answers, notes, checklists and lists of people are saved only on this device, in this browser. You never have to give your name. On a shared computer, use My data to back up and then erase everything before you leave.
This is the privacy policy for Feeling Alone. Effective date: to be set when the site is published.
What happens to what you type
- It stays in your browser. Tools save to your browser's own storage (IndexedDB). Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. This website has no database and no login.
- No tracking. There are no analytics, no advertising, no cookies and no third-party scripts. Fonts and all files come from this website.
- Your choices (text size, dark mode, where you live) are also kept in your browser, so the page looks right the next time you visit.
- Search happens on your device. What you search for is never sent anywhere or added to the web address.
- Your personal guide is made on your device. The "My situation" reading list and the loneliness check are worked out in your browser by fixed rules. No one reads your answers.
What our web host records
Like nearly every website, the company that hosts this site keeps standard server logs: the IP address of each visitor, the type of browser, the pages requested, and the time. These logs are kept for security and to fix problems. We do not use them to track, profile or identify visitors, we do not combine them with anything else, and we never sell or share them. Nothing you type into the tools is ever in these logs, because it never leaves your browser.
Protecting it further
- Passphrase: you can protect everything you save with a passphrase in My data. If you forget it, the information cannot be recovered, by you or by us.
- Backups: download a backup file to keep a copy or move to another device. You can protect the file with a passphrase too.
- Erasing: "Erase everything" deletes all of it from this browser.
If someone else uses your device
If you share a phone or computer with someone and would rather they didn't see what you've written here, turn on a passphrase in My data, or erase everything when you are done. Most browsers also have a private or incognito window, which forgets everything when you close it.
Who can see it?
Anyone who uses this device and this browser profile could open the tools and see what is saved, unless you turn on a passphrase. Clearing your browser's site data also deletes it.
Links to other websites
This site loads nothing from other websites. Links to official sources (and the support link) open the other site only when you click them. From then on, that site's own privacy rules apply.
If you choose to contribute: the "Support" link opens PayPal's own page. This website never loads PayPal code and sends PayPal nothing about your visit. As with any PayPal payment, PayPal tells the recipient (Harimedia LLC) your name, email address and the amount. That information stays with PayPal and the publisher's records. It is never connected to anything you typed on this site, which stays in your browser.
If you email us
If you write to contact@feelingalone.org, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply and to fix the guide, and we never share it or add you to a mailing list.
The "Did this help?" box
On some pages, a small box may ask if the guide helped. If you choose "Not now", your browser remembers that for 30 days (just a date, in this browser). "Erase everything" removes it too.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new effective date. The guide will stay free, with no ads, tracking or accounts.
