For readers outside the U.S.
Nearly all of this guide applies anywhere in the world. Here is how to see the crisis lines and local-search prompts for your country.
Do this first
Turn on the international view below. The crisis lines and the "find help near you" prompts then switch to ones for other countries. In an emergency, call your local emergency number (for example 112 in the European Union).
The international view is off.
Turn it on to group the pages about U.S. law at the end of the menu and add a short note to pages with U.S.-only parts. Your choice is kept only in this browser.
What applies everywhere
Loneliness is human, and most of this guide is about people, not laws. Understanding loneliness, your age and situation, mind and body, ways to connect, personality, comfort and helping others all apply wherever you live.
Pages that name U.S. phone lines, programs or rules say so in a short note at the top, and suggest what to look for where you live.
Help in your country
- Help outside the U.S.: crisis lines, befriending services and national loneliness organizations by country.
- Find help near you: ready-to-copy prompts for a free AI search tool, written for any country.
- Many countries now have "social prescribing", where a doctor or nurse can refer you to community groups and activities. Ask your family doctor if it exists where you live.
