Three things to know

  1. You are far from alone in feeling alone. Around the world, about people are affected by loneliness, according to the World Health Organization. It touches every age, from teens to people in their nineties.
  2. It is a signal, not a flaw. Like hunger tells you to eat, loneliness tells you that you need people. It is not a sign that something is wrong with you.
  3. It can change. Small, repeated steps toward other people tend to help, and so does help from a counselor or doctor when loneliness weighs heavily. See how to start.

  • A library, a park, a café, a place of worship. You don't have to talk to anyone.
